Decentralized email platform Dmail Network has officially announced that it will gradually cease all services starting May 15, 2026, marking the end of its five-year journey in the Web3 communication space.
The company cited multiple challenges, including high infrastructure costs, failed fundraising efforts, weak monetization and limited token utility as the primary reasons behind its shutdown.
Users have been strongly advised to export their data before the deadline, as all services will become inaccessible afterward.
High Costs and Business Challenges Led to Shutdown
Dmail explained that maintaining a decentralized communication platform proved financially unsustainable. The costs associated with bandwidth, storage and computing infrastructure consumed a significant portion of its budget and continued to rise as the user base expanded.
Despite experimenting with various revenue models, the company was unable to identify a scalable monetization strategy that users were willing to adopt.
Additionally, Dmail faced difficulties in securing financial support. Multiple funding rounds failed, acquisition attempts did not materialize and available funds were nearing exhaustion.
The situation was further complicated by the departure of key team members, leaving the remaining team unable to maintain the platform’s infrastructure.

Token Utility and Market Conditions Played a Role
Dmail also said that its token did not become useful for users in real life. It did not have a strong purpose that people needed every day. Because of this, the token system could not support the platform’s growth or help it earn steady income.
At the same time, the crypto market became weaker. Prices dropped, and investor interest also reduced. This made it harder for Dmail to get funding and continue its operations.
The company also admitted that it made wrong assumptions about the future of decentralized communication. It expected higher demand, but that did not happen.
Due to these reasons, Dmail was not prepared for market changes and could not adjust its strategy in time, which added to its shutdown decision.
User Data Export Deadline and Final Steps
Dmail Network is giving users a limited time to safely manage their data. To avoid losing access, users should export all their emails before May 15, 2026. The platform has provided an export tool that allows users to transfer their data to other email services like Gmail.
After completing the export process, users can also request account deletion for added security. Once the shutdown date passes, all network nodes will stop working, and users will no longer be able to access their emails or accounts.
Additionally, all stored data will be permanently deleted, making it important for users to act early and complete the necessary steps before the deadline.
Dmail’s Growth and Industry Position
Dmail Network was a Web3 communication platform that offered features like wallet-based email, encrypted messaging, and on-chain notifications. It aimed to give users more privacy and control compared to traditional email services.
At its peak, the platform saw strong growth. In January 2025, it ranked among the top AI DApps, with millions of active users, showing high adoption in the Web3 space.
However, Dmail could not sustain its business. Its shutdown shows that even with many users, a platform still needs a strong revenue model to survive in the long term
