Crypto exchange Gemini has introduced a new feature called Agentic Trading, designed to make crypto trading smarter and more automated using artificial intelligence.
Launched on Monday, the feature allows users to connect popular AI models such as ChatGPT and Claude directly to their trading accounts.
This enables AI systems to monitor market movements, analyze data, place trades, and manage risk based on user-defined strategies. According to Gemini, this is the first agentic trading tool offered by a regulated U.S.-based crypto exchange, marking a major step in combining AI with financial trading.
“We are entering a new era in financial markets,” Gemini stated. “Agentic trading is not just a tool, it’s a shift where AI handles execution and discipline while users focus on strategy and goals.”
The system is powered by the MCP (Model Context Protocol), originally developed by AI research company Anthropic. This open standard allows AI agents to interact with external APIs and tools. Gemini has fully integrated its trading API into this system.
Growing Trend of Agentic AI in Finance
Gemini’s new feature is part of a bigger trend called agentic AI, where AI systems can work on their own and use digital tools like apps, platforms, and financial services.
Many big companies in the crypto industry are also building similar technology. For example, Coinbase is working on a system called x402, which allows AI programs to use crypto wallets and online services for payments.
Another company, Tempo is developing a system called Machine Payments Protocol (MPP), which helps machines send payments to each other automatically.
All these systems are based on similar technology, but there is a difference. Gemini’s version is mainly focused on automating crypto trading, where AI can help users buy, sell, and manage trades more easily.
Built-in Trading Skills for AI Agents
The Agentic Trading system also has built-in tools called “Trading Skills.”
These tools help AI do important trading tasks, such as:
- Checking price differences between buying and selling prices
- Looking at past price data
- Studying market trends and patterns
- Testing trading strategies using old data
Gemini said that more advanced features will be added soon to make the system even better.
Market Challenges for Gemini
Even though Gemini is launching new AI trading features, the company is also facing some problems.
Recently, several top executives left the company, including the CFO, COO, and CLO. This happened while the company was dealing with higher operating costs.
At the same time, investment firm Mizuho reduced its price target for Gemini’s stock (GEMI). The firm said trading activity is weaker, even though the company is seeing some growth in its crypto card business.
Currently, GEMI shares are around $4.45, which is much lower than its launch price of $28 in September. This shows a big drop in the stock value in a short time.
